Denmark’s Princess Alexandra to Give It All Up for Love

by Maricar on February 8th, 2007

What will you give up for love? Money? Your merry royal status?

Princess Alexandra of Denmark will give it all up for the man she loves. On March 3, she will marry her photographer beau Martin Jørgensen. As a result of the marriage, the Princess will lose her status as a member of the royal family. She will no longer have the title of princess, nor will she be addressed as Her Highness. Instead, she will be known as Alexandra Christina, Countess of Frederiksborg.

And it’s not just the princess title that she’ll lose. As a member of the royal family, she enjoys a tax-exempt status. Though she will continue to receive an annuity from the government, she is said to lose up to 74% of her disposable income due to taxes. That’s a whopping big amount, so much so that she might actually take a salaried job.

According to Denmark’s Lord Chamberlain Ove Ullerup, Alexandra will retain some of her patronages. So at least, she will still be able to enjoy this part of being a royal.

Alexandra was formerly married to Prince Joachim, the younger brother of Crown Prince Frederik. They divorced in 2005.

After the wedding, Alexandra, 42, and Jørgensen, 28, will live in her villa in Copenhagen with her sons, Prince Nikolai and Prince Felix.

A romantic story, just in time for Valentine’s Day, don’t you think? I wish them much happiness. After all, “happily ever after” is not just for royals.
