Reactions to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Split
The breakup of Prince William and Kate Middleton has understandably caused quite a stir around the world. Royal watchers, newspaper editors and photographers have given their thoughts on the whys and wherefores of the split. BBC has a selection of quotes from various people, including the following:
-
“Maybe she realised the awful burden she would have taken on, it’s a life sentence marrying a royal.” (Hello Magazine correspondent Judy Wade)
-
“It may be that she’s said marry me or I’m going to dump you”. (Editor-in-Chief of Majesty magazine Ingrid Seward)
-
“It’s the biggest kiss and tell in the history of kiss and tells… my instinct tells me that there is somebody else in the background”. (PR guru Max Clifford)
-
“This relationship formed in a media-free zone (at university) but of course since then Kate has been under intense pressure from paparazzi photographers. She really was at her wits end”. (Sun photographer, Arthur Edwards)
Also visit CNN for a video of Arthur Edwards’ thoughts on the breakup.
As you can see, various reasons are being speculated for the reason/s behind the split. Media pressure. A third party. Kate wanting to get married, while William wants to wait.
Maybe we’ll never know what happened. Maybe it was a combination of many reasons. Maybe they simply drifted apart. It does happen, in ordinary as well as royal life.
I’ve read reactions from royal fans ranging from sadness, to half-joking elation that Prince William is single (and available) again. Me, I’m sad. I think they were great together. I didn’t think they’d get married soon, but for them to part ways never crossed my mind.
But this may just be a temporary break after all, and they’ll get back together someday. When things have quieted a bit. When they’ve had time to think things over, and they realize that they’re each other’s one true love! (sigh, maybe that’s just the romantic in me). I just hope if that time ever comes, that it won’t be too late for either of them.
But if Kate Middleton is not the right woman to be at Prince William’s side when he becomes King, then I wish him luck finding the one who is. He will not have the privacy and freedom he did when he met Kate at university. He will have to be very savvy about the way he goes about his next relationship.
As for Kate, I wish her happiness too. She will get over this. She’s got what it takes to maker a career for herself, find another man who will adore her.
