The Merry Royals in April ‘07

by Maricar on May 1st, 2007

monthly

Ah, April. It was a big month for royal news. I got a big surprise about a pair of royal sweethearts … you know who they are, but read on anyway:

Prince William and Kate Middleton

These two were such big news this month that they deserve their own category at this month’s round-up. Yes, they broke up, as reported first by The Sun and almost immediately confirmed by friends of the couple. The split and the details of how it happened occupied newspapers and blogs. The news came as a shock for many royal watchers, me included. Their relationship was analyzed and rehashed, as people reacted to the split. Various reasons were given for the break-up, including William getting tired of Kate and alleged snobbery in the British Royal Family.

British Royals

Now, on to the rest of the British royal family. Prince Harry was equally present in the news this month. His drinking habits still drew much attention, and prompted him being called an ‘embarrassment’ to his country. (But historically, he wasn’t alone in having a brush with embarrassing situations). One point of pride for him, though, is being GQ’s 10th Best Dressed British Celebrity. The painting commemorating Prince Harry’s graduation from Sandhurst was put on public display, even as his deployment to Iraq is put in question. Wherever Prince Harry goes, he knows that his relationship with girlfriend Chelsy is still as strong as ever.

Prince Charles has come under close scrutiny by environmentalists for his choices and decisions while travelling. The Prince has been busy, celebrating Liverpool’s 800th birthday, among others. He will also reportedly become the first British royal to open a hotel.

Queen Elizabeth honored her daughter Princess Anne by appointing her as Grand Master of the Royal Victorian Order. Among the public engagements of The Queen and Prince Philip were the Royal Maundy Service, and a ceremony remembering the World War I Battle at Vimy Ridge. The dates for their State visit to the U.S. were announced. This month, the British monarch also celebrated a quiet 81st Birthday. Meanwhile, Prince Philip is expected to become Prince Consort later this year.

The memorial concert being planned by Prince William and Prince Harry for their mother was said to be encountering some trouble, though an additional roster of performers was announced.

We saw the Easter hats of the British Royals on parade, as well as the Duke of York visiting the BBC offices. Prince William was photographed with a (guy posing as a) chick.

Royal Babies and Tots

Two royal princesses were born this month. Princess Ariane was born to Dutch Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima. She was presented to the media just a couple of days after she was born. You can see the latest photos of the family here.

A baby princess, who is as yet unnamed, was also born to Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik and Princess Mary. Meanwhile, her brother Prince Christian attends to his regular toddler business as he goes to nursery school.

Other Royal News

It was reported that Denmark’s Prince Joachim might get engaged. We saw the Spanish Royals celebrating Easter. Japanese Princesses Princess Mako and Princess Kako attended their high school entrance ceremonies. Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit are scheduled to visit Seoul. Monaco’s Prince Albert met with the Chinese president while Spain’s King Juan Carlos met with Pakistani President Musharraf. Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn met Singaporean leaders while Belgian King Albert and Queen Paola visited Latvia.

I’ll bring you more royal happenings this month, so make sure you come back! :)

Prince William & Kate Middleton is just laying low for awhile. Everyone thinks these two people are mad at each other and not speaking to each other. I just read that a magazine clames that Kate said “I Blame Charles”. First of all Kate would have never said that. They still keep in contact with each other and she still wears his ring. They was just seen leaving a hot London Club the other day. The press was getting crazy so they decided to lay low. There is no reason for them to get married soo soon. Don’t forget The Countess of Wessesx was associated with the Royal Family since the early 90’s before she married Prince Edward in 1999. William & kate is doing just fine.

    Hi Claudius,
I agree that Kate wouldn’t have said that about Prince Charles. And somehow, I hope you’re right about them just lying low for now. The time away from the press madness will be good for them. They might be getting a cue from Prince Edward and Sophie, who are doing wonderfully today.

They are just laying low for awhile. I think it’s a great plan. I just get soo sick of these silly reports that William & Kate hate each other. These two people are ver much inlove with each other and I just seen a photo of her leaving a party with his ring still on. She is far from single.

Just to state that if William & Kate did split up for good, it would truly be a sad case. When you love someone, and you that God put you two together, you should not let anything get in the way of your relationship. The press is something eles, they were driving these two people crazy. The real point is that people want to see a fairy tale wedding because they haven’t seen anything like that since the 1981 wedding of The Prince & Princess of Wales and people just love the idea of William & Kate getting married. They should continue to lay low and make people think they are not together. They are clearly still inlove with each other, you can see it. I pray that we will see Kate at the Diana Concert in July and at the memrial service in August. Long Live Kate & William.
