The Merry Royals in May ‘07

Another month is over and it’s time for the round-up of merry royal news.
Britain’s Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip
One of the highlights of the month was the state visit to the U.S. by Britain’s Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. The royal couple had a full schedule, with stops at various sites. Their tour started in Virginia, where they took part in the celebrations of Jamestown’s 400th anniversary. They fulfilled a lifelong wish of the Queen by watching the Kentucky Derby. The couple also took in the sights at NASA and Washington, DC. They attended a State Dinner at the White House. Their historic visit was capped by an official dinner at the British Embassy. An official portrait of The Queen by Annie Leibovitz was commissioned for the event.
Queen Elizabeth has been voted the Greatest Living Briton. In not so grandiose news, she’s been planning to sell her Ayrshire dairy herd. Meanwhile, a new carriage for her is almost nearing completion.
Prince Harry
Prince Harry’s military career was in much discussion this week. First, there was news that he will be sent to Iraq, prompting his girlfriend Chelsy Davy to give him a lavish going-away gift. It then appeared that Harry’s deployment will be delayed. Finally, it was announced that the soldier prince has been pulled out of Iraq altogether. Several alternatives for continuing his military career are speculated upon. Meanwhile, Prince Harry’s troop show their support by buying ginger-colored wigs, which then prompts some speculation on my part on how Prince Harry will look in Disguise. The latest news is that he has said his goodbyes to his Iraq-bound men, promising them lots of champagne upon their return. Prince Harry recently looked handsome in a bowler hat, just like his brother.
Prince William
Prince William’s recently-concluded romance with Kate Middleton doesn’t seem to be as cut-and-dried as it first appeared. The two have basically gone on with their own lives. Prince William, ever handsome specially in a bowler hat, is still busy with his official duties such as the opening of Wembley Stadium. He is said to be preparing to live in Dolphin Square in Pimlico. But there are whispers of William and Kate’s continued closeness, including secret talks that they’ve had. There will be more news of this couple in the coming months, I’m sure.
Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall
Prince Charles is reportedly launching a “quiet campaign” to have Camilla eventually be called Queen. His recent legal battle to keep his controversial travel journals private was successful. The wax model of Charles at London’s Madame Tussauds was updated to reflect his environmental advocacy. Though she needed to cancel some appointments in order to rest, The Duchess of Cornwall continues to recover well from her recent operation. The couple had a official visit to Scotland this month.
Other British Royals
The other members of the British royal family have gone about their usual business. Among them are the Earl and Countess of Wessex. Zara Phillips is concentrating on training for next year’s Beijing Olympics. Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, visited the Ronald McDonald House in Minneapolis. Prince Edward unveiled a memorial to firefighters. Environmentalists criticize the Britain’s Prince Andrew’s plans to use a helicopter for his travels.
The late Princess Diana’s bicycle was sold for 1,200 pounds. The memorial concert for her has new performers and a all-night party in the plans.
Young Royals
A new baby princess for Spain was born this month. Dutch baby Princess Ariane was briefly in the hospital. We saw some adorable baby photos from the Danish royal family. Meanwhile, Japan’s Princess Aiko attended her Kinder Picnic.
Other Royal News
Jordan’s Queen Rania discussed cross-cultural communication at the World Economic Forum. Japan’s Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, who showed off their charm as grandparents, went on a European tour. Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit visited South Korea, while Dutch Queen Beatrix was in Slovakia. Spain’s King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia went on a three-day visit to Budapest. Denmark’s Prince Frederik celebrated his birthday this month.
That’s it for this month! Watch for more royal news in the month of June!

Ive recieved comments about someone was in Pimlico hearing about secret whispers going on about the late Diana Spencer, a regarded Princess of Wales’s 24 years old Son, William, a prince himself in secret talks in the area with Miss Middleton (Katherine) and also … about the closeness …
Oh for god’s sake, I am deaf myself and have met the Princess Royal (Anne) on 21 Feb 2001 in Newcastle Deaf School. I know how would the Princess will feel seeing the rumours in the newspapers and TV news about her nephew and the former girlfriend stuff!!! So what?
If they are getting back in future, then what is that got to do with the Public members of UK? Leave them to decide what goingto happen with themselves!

That is true, people should leave them alone. I know that William & kate are going to be fine. We don’t know what the future will hold for these two. They have a lot going on in their lives right now and the media pressure is crazy. Weather they are together or not, they will be happy someday.

I do think it’s quite sad though that there is a rumor that Kate is dating one of William’s old friends. I have a feeling that William friends is just looking after her. And that’s that.
