Back from Vacation, and Look What’s Happened!
I haven’t dropped out of blogging about the royals, in case you were wondering. I just had a short, and I might say computer-free, vacation at Disney World. Lots of fun, of course, and exercise too! I must have walked miles and miles the past week or so. :)
While I was gone, Jeanne has kindly looked after the Merry Royals for me, and she’s done a great job! (Thanks, Jeanne!).
There’s lots of royal news to catch up on, so I’ll get to it, and hopefully be able to bring you all the latest news. Here goes:
British Royals
Prince Harry’s regiment will leave for Afghanistan in October. It is unknown whether the soldier prince will be with them or not.
Princess Anne was on a visit to Scotland, which included tours of regeneration projects. However, one of the places she stopped in, Cumbernauld in central Scotland, was reportedly offended by some “rude remarks” she made during her stay.
Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall, just turned 60, and was given some jewelry and a couple of sheep (!) by her husband Prince Charles. To celebrate the birthday (not the sheep), Hello! has a gallery featuring 24 photos of Camilla.
The Queen wasn’t at the birthday celebrations for Camilla, but showed her support by lending The Duchess a diamond necklace that used to belong to the Queen Mother.
Prince William, with the Duke of Kent, is scheduled to be a the opening of the 21st World Scout Jamboree in Chelmsford in Essex this weekend.
Camilla is said to be happy to be known as Princess Consort, instead of Queen, upon Prince Charles’ ascension to the throne.
Buckingham Palace has announced that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip will visit Uganda and Malta in November this year. Their visit to Malta is a private visit, set to coincide with the couple’s 60th wedding anniversary. They lived in Malta in the early days of their marriage, before the Queen ascended the throne.
Spanish Royals
Prince Felipe of Asturias visited Brazil for the launch of expansion plans for the Cervantes Institute.
King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia had a short vacation in Majorca. While there, they attended the 13th Breitling Sailing Cup.
Norwegian Royals
Crown Prince Haakon celebrated a quiet 34th birthday on July 20, choosing to spend the day with his family in an undisclosed location. Belated birthday greetings, Prince Haakon!
Princess Martha Louise, daughter of King Harald and Queen Sonja, claims to be have clairvoyant powers and the ability to talk with angels, and is launching a school aimed at teaching these to others.
Other Royals
Jordan’s King Abdullah II met with U.S. President George W. Bush in private talks at the White House this week.
This week, Afghanistan buried its last king, Mohammad Zahir Shah, who died on Monday at age 92.
