The Merry Royals in July ‘07
Last month, the merry royals celebrated a variety of good news. To start, Britain’s Prince William and Prince Harry’s tribute concert for their mother Diana was a success. Their uncle and aunt, The Earl and Countess of Wessex, announced that they’re expecting. The Duchess of Cornwall celebrated her 60th birthday and was given some jewelry and a couple of sheep by Prince Charles. The Queen didn’t attend the celebrations, but lent The Duchess a diamond necklace that used to belong to the Queen Mother.
At the end of the month, Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly announced their engagement. Of course, we also celebrated the rekindled romance of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Denmark’s Princess Isabella Henrietta Ingrid Margrethe was christened last month. Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria celebrated her 30th birthday. Spain’s Princess Sofia was baptized. Norway’s Queen Sonja marked her 70th year, while Crown Prince Haakon celebrated a quiet 34th.
Now, on to the other news last month:
British Royals
A controversy erupted concerning The Queen, the BBC and Annie Leibovitz. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip visited Somerset’s Winter Gardens, while Prince Charles and Camilla were seen at the Sandringham Flower Show. Prince Charles and Camilla also lent support and encouragement to recent flood victims in Britain. Prince William and the Duke of Kent celebrated with scouts at the 21st World Scout Jamboree.
Kate Middleton, who was voted the number 1 party guest, joined “The Sisterhood”.
Prince Harry’s regiment will leave for Afghanistan in October. Princess Anne was on a visit to Scotland, which included tours of regeneration projects. Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip will visit Uganda and Malta in November this year.
Spanish Royals
King Juan Carlos, Queen Sofia had a short vacation in Mallorca. While there, they attended the 13th Breitling Sailing Cup. Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia were also spotted enjoying Mallorca. Prince Felipe was earlier in Brazil for the launch of expansion plans for the Cervantes Institute.
Other Royals
Norway’s Princess Martha Louise claimed to have clairvoyant powers and the ability to talk with angels. Denmark’s Princess Mary and Prince Frederik were on holiday in Croatia. Jordan’s King Abdullah II met with U.S. President George W. Bush in private talks at the White House this week. Last month, Afghanistan buried its last king, Mohammad Zahir Shah, who died at age 92.
