Prince Charles’ New Gardening Book
September 24, 2007 by Maricar Macalincag
Prince Charles has written a new book that is now available in bookstores. The Elements of Organic Gardening draws upon the prince’s decades of experience in environment-friendly gardening practices.From the books’ description:
For twenty-six years, the Prince of Wales has passionately honed the organic practices used at Highgrove, Their Royal Highnesses’ family home in Gloucestershire, as well as in his other gardens at Birkhall in the Scottish Highlands and Clarence House in central London. Now, alongside Andrew Lawson’s elegant photographs and with Country Living gardening editor Stephanie Donaldson, the Prince’s vivid elucidation of his techniques for maintaining healthy soil, planting varieties, and sustaining an ecosystem “in harmony with the natural laws and rhythms of the universe of which we are an integral part” offers a wealth of wisdom to delight and inspire any gardener. His practices, based on a deep respect for nature, can be adapted to almost any garden, large or small. The Prince is hands-on in his gardens, and it is this passion that reveals itself intimately to be at the heart of The Elements of Organic Gardening. 200 full-color photographs.
Organic gardening is an area in which Prince Charles is an undisputed expert. I’d be interested to find out about his techniques, and of course, get a glimpse of his gardens too!
Other books by the Prince of Wales are:
* H. R. H. the Prince of Wales Watercolours
* Highgrove: An Experiment in Organic Gardening and Farming

Royal Watcher Question: Would you pay to have a tour of Prince Charles’ private gardens?

I have just received my copy of the new book. It is a beautiful book! Well written and very readable. The grounds at Highgrove are fabulous. A lot of thought, time and hard work have gone into the gardens.
Thank you for sharing the information about this new book I recently bought a book through Amazon.com: HRH The Prince of Wales Watercolors. It is a gorgeous book as well.
Vanessa, Was it Amazon UK or Amazon.com you ordered from? I would love to have a book of his watercolors! He’s really very good with watercolors. They say the Duchess also paints, I’d like to see some of her work sometime.
Hi Muriel, Thanks for letting us know what you think of the gardening book. The watercolors book is available from both Amazon.com and Amazon UK. But I only have the link to the US Amazon store above.
Hi Vanessa, Prince Charles watercolors have been received very well. Wouldn’t it be great if he and Camilla came up with a book with both of their works?
I went on Amazon yesterday and found it, got one ordered! Wouldn’t that be great if they did one of both their work? I understand she’s very good too. I can’t handle watercolor, it’s a lot harder than I thought, I like charcoal or pencil.
I ordered through Amazon via the link to independent booksellers (for new and used) My copy arrived in very good condition. I am certain you’ll enjoy it very much! I hadn’t realized the Dutchess of Cornwal paints as well…that’s a very good thing! As HRH Prince Charles mentions in the book painting watercolours just takes practice. He is right…it helps not to take yourself too seriously and just the doing of it. I am also a great admirer of other peoples work! Would love to hear what you think of his book after you get a chance to look through it! It’s a real treasure in my opinion!
I ordered mine from an independent seller on Amazon, can’t wait till it arrives! Is there more than one volume of his paintings? I love art, not very good at it, but I do enjoy it. Yes, the Duchess paints too, would love to see a book with paintings by both.
