Nepal Abolishes Its Monarchy
The monarchy of Nepal will soon be an institution of the past. After years of turmoil, the Nepalese government made a deal for former rebels to rejoin the administration in return for the removal of the monarchy and a general election next year.
Nepal’s last king, Gyanendra, is highly unpopular with his people. He became king after a palace massacre in 2001, when the former King Binendra died.
