Poem by Queen Beatrix Found in the US
A childhood friend of Dutch Queen Beatrix has released a poem written for her by the monarch when they were playmates in 1947.
Paula Stykel, now a resident of California, used to play with then Princess Beatrix and her sister Princess Irene at the royal palace in Apeldoorn. Mrs. Stykel sent the poem to De Stentor, the local paper of Apeldoorn, and Dutch newspapers picked it up from there.
In Dutch the text reads: ,,Zo lang ik leef/ schrijf ik steets scheef/ Scheef of rechtuit/ Paula jij bent een echte guit/ Dat zeg ik/ Herrennering aan Trix.”
An English, non-rhyming translation might be: “As long as I live/ I continue to write crooked/ crooked or straight/ Paula you are a real rascal/ So say I/ Souvenir of Trix”
