Prince Andrew on the TODAY Show
Britain’s Prince Andrew was interviewed on the Today Show by Meredith Vieira. He talked about being a royal in military service (he served in the Falklands), his “outstanding” nephews Prince William and Prince Harry, and them being in the military, and taking his daughter Princess Beatrice on an official trip to Egypt, among other things. He credits his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson with keeping their two children well-grounded.A moment of insight into what Prince Andrew thinks about being a prince came with Meredith asked him whether he’s ever fantasized about living a non-royal life. (Catch the look of surprise on Prince Andrew’s face at Meredith’s question, “Do you have a good, um,… head for fantasy?”. LOL).
“Not the sort of thing that I can have an opportunity to think about,” he said. “I mean, it’s bad enough when you find out — well, not bad enough …”
Vieira noted that it sounded like life as a prince can be a burden.
“You choose to make it a burden or you choose to make it an opportunity,” Prince Andrew responded. “I’m somebody who looks at these things through a glass half-full, rather than a glass empty.”
Prince Andrew gave Meredith a tour of Buckingham Palace, even pointing out to her the room where he was born.
The footage of the interview shows a Prince Andrew that maybe not a lot of people (including me) see too often… with a sense of humor but also with a serious outlook on the work he does as a member of Britain’s royal family. Prince Andrew is the United Kingdom’s Special Representative for International trade and Investment.
