Prince Harry Fights in Afghanistan
February 28, 2008 by Maricar Macalincag
Prince Harry is no longer the commander who was left behind. He has finally fulfilled his ambition of fighting in the frontline with his fellow soldiers.
Though the British media has known about it for some time, it’s only been today that information about Prince Harry’s deployment to Afghanistan has been released. The prince has been involved in the fighting for several weeks already before the news leaked out. Unknown to the public, he actually spent Christmas while on deployment.
As part of the news blackout agreed upon by the British media and the Ministry of Defense, a group of journalists had gone to Afghanistan to document the activities of Prince Harry. The understanding was that the information would not be released until after Harry’s tour was over. However, reports prematurely came out in the Australian magazine New Idea and the U.S.-based Drudge Report.
Some news reports say that he is still in Afghanistan, but might be removed because of the news leak. Royal watchers also speculate that he might be back in Britain already. Meanwhile, his brother Prince William and the rest of the royal family, are just extremely proud of what Prince Harry has done and been doing.
Here are some of the headlines covering the story:
* Queen broke news he was going (via SkyNews)
* While the Royals gathered at Sandringham, Prince Harry played chase the chicken on Christmas Day (via Daily Mail)
* Prince Harry on front line in Afghanistan (via MSNBC) - with video
* How the Prince Harry blackout was broken (via Telegraph) - with video
* ‘As normal as I’m going to get’ (via BBC) - with videos

I am very happy for Prince Harry that he has been able to do what he has always wanted to do. And happier still that he is safe. I’m looking forward to news of his safe return to Britain, along with the soldiers who served with him.
