Queen Elizabeth Cancels Celebration at the Ritz
The lavish party at the Ritz has been planned for months. It was to belatedly celebrate the diamond wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Despite all the preparations that have already been made, The Queen has decided to cancel the festivities at the last minute, due to the economic problems that her country is facing.
“It is a great shame, but the Queen does not want to be seen to be doing something so elaborate at a time of such economic gloom,” one friend said.
“The Queen decided to cancel the party because of the very real prospect that the country is about to go through a major recession.”
The actual anniversary was last November, and was then marked with a private party at Clarence House. This weekend’s party at the Ritz would have been truly lavish, with crystal-studded bottles of champagne and tablecloths decorated with jewels, to keep with the “diamond” theme. Although it was to have been funded by friends, The Queen is concerned with how the extravagance would be viewed by the British people. It shows that despite her privileged status, she is quite in touch with the sentiments of her subjects.
