Britain’s Crown Estate is having the world’s biggest wind turbine built on the British coast.

Once completed in 2012, the Queen’s turbine will have some awesome numbers to its name:

  • Ten megawatts = generated power
  • Two soccer fields = wingspan
  • 574 feet = height
  • 2 Million = barrels of oil that will be replaced by the turbine’s power over its lifetime
  • 724,000 = tons of CO2 that will be prevented from being released into the atmosphere
  • 3,700 = number of homes that this single massive windmill alone will power

The turbine will be built by Clipper Windpower of California. It will be the first among many super turbines that Clipper is going to build as part of its Britannia Project.

When The Queen goes green, she does it in grand style.
