British Royals Lead Remembrance Sunday Ceremony
Queen Elizabeth and the royal family lead the United Kingdom in remembering those who had died in military service during the annual Remembrance Sunday today, November 9, 2008.
The royals joined past and present government officials, including Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Baroness Margaret Thatcher, and war veterans at the Cenotaph in laying wreaths of poppy at the war memorial. The 11 a.m. service is held annually on the Sunday nearest to the anniversary of the end of World War I on Nov. 11, 1918.
Joining the Queen were Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh; Prince Charles and Camilla, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Sophie, and Prince William. Also present were the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and the Duke of Kent.
