British Royals Celebrate 100 Years of Navy Aviation

Prince Charles, Camilla, and Prince Andrew gathered with Royal Navy servicemen to celebrate a century of naval aviation on May 8, 2009.
A Service of Thanksgiving was held at St Paul’s Cathedral, followed by a parade composed of Royal Guards from HMS Illustrious and veterans of the Royal Navy. The 6,749 personnel from the Royal Navy Air Service and Fleet Air Arm who have died in service over the past 100 years were commemorated.
After the service and parade, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and The Duke of York joined servicemen and their families at a reception at London’s Guildhall.

Prince Andrew Helps Unveil Natural Gas Facility in Russia

Britain’s Prince Andrew joined Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso , Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, and Dutch Economics Minister Josephine van der Hoeven at today’s opening of Russia’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant.
The new facility is located in Prigorodnoye, south of Sakhalin Island, Russia. The plant is expected to produce 9.6 million metric tons of natural gas annually. A big portion of the production will be exported to countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including the U.S., South Korea and Japan.
The Duke of York is the U.K.’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment. His work takes him on several foreign trips every year to facilitate trade relations between the U.K. and other countries. The Sakhalin natural gas project is a collaboration between Russia, the Netherlands, the U.K. and Japan.

Prince Andrew, Princess Eugenie Visit Quake-Hit Areas in China

Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, has taken his daughter Princess Eugenie with him on an official visit to China this week.
Prince Andrew arrived in Shanghai on October 31, 2008, after a short visit to Mongolia. His visit has taken him to several provinces in China, including Hubei and Sichuan.
In his role as Special Representative for International Trade and Investment, the Duke of York has met with representatives of China-based British companies and offices, and Chinese government officials.
Princess Eugenie, 18, is on her gap year and is accompanying her father on this trip to gain experience in attending official royal engagements. She does not attend meetings with her father, but accompanies him to evening receptions. Prince Andrew also brought Princess Beatrice, then on her gap year, on an official trip to Egypt at the start of the year.
