Simon Winchester’s interview of Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary has been posted at Parade Magazine.
It’s a refreshing read, confirming a lot of the things we already know about the lovely royal couple: how they met, their background, their two children. But it also reveals some things that are not state secrets but very interesting all the same.
- Prince Frederik, whom Mr. Winchester described as looking like one of the Backstreet Boys, seems to enjoy a wink every now and then (he did so at least twice during the interview!).
Denmark’s Prince Frederik and Princess Mary Attend Gala in New York

Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary turned out in stunning fashion for the American-Scandinavian Foundation’s Annual Gala at the Pierre Hotel today, March 27, 2009.
The royal couple is in the U.S. for an official visit to promote Danish industries and good relations with American businesses. Today, they showed their support for the non-profit ASF, which aims to promote cultural and educational links between the U.S. and the Scandinavian countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
Prince Frederik continues to cheerfully attend to his royal duties, even as he hobbles along on his crutches. As for Princess Mary, well, today is a day for some exciting royal fashion! After Princess Beatrice’s toned down polka dot dress, we get this unusual sheath gown from Princess Mary. It shows off her elegant figure to stunning effect. She didn’t need too many accessories for this gown. I’m glad she wore her hair down for this, as it added to the soft over-all look.
